The Health Of The United States Essay - 973 Words

The health of the United States has been declining in recent years. More individuals are suffering from health issues such as obesity and high cholesterol. This is particularly true of Know County in Maine. There are many health concerns in Know County. In order to address these problems a community program called ACHIEVE reached out to the YMCA to help improve the health of the area. In order to assess the success of this program it is important to understand the area in which it is implemented and the details of the program. ACHIEVE is a community program designed by the CDC to help promote community health. â€Å"CDC s ACHIEVE communities (Action Communities for Health, Innovation, and EnVironmental changE) develop and implement population-based strategies that help prevent or manage health risk factors for heart disease, stroke, diabetes, cancer, obesity, and arthritis†(). In order to promote community health. The program provides funds to certain community and government organizations, including the National Association of County and City Health Officials, National Association of Chronic Disease Directors, National Recreation and Park Association, Society for Public Health education and the YMCA. The program is broken down in to two parts with a division of responsibilities.
